5 altFINS Trading MCP Prompts to Find Setups With Claude (2026)

Last updated: 26 August 2026 • Live data snapshots captured the same day

altFINS trading MCP prompts turn Claude into a live crypto screening assistant. You describe a trade setup in plain English, Claude runs the matching altFINS screener presets, checks the numbers, and hands back a short, ranked shortlist with support and resistance levels already attached. No manual filter building, no scrolling through hundreds of charts.

Below are five prompts that work today, each with live sample results captured on 26 August 2026. None of them predict that a coin will go up. They point your research at coins that meet a defined, confirmable setup, so you spend less time hunting and more time deciding. Every prompt uses indicators available across altFINS MCP tiers, so you can run them whatever your plan.

Key takeaways

  • The altFINS MCP lets Claude read live screener data, indicators, news, and calendar events through natural language.
  • The five prompts cover breakouts, pullbacks, reversals, momentum leaders, and catalyst plays.
  • Each prompt returns entry context, a stop at support, and a target at resistance.
  • A coin passing a filter is a research starting point, not a buy signal.
  • This guide is educational and is not financial advice.

What is the altFINS trading MCP?

The altFINS MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a remote server that connects Claude to the altFINS screener, technical analysis, signals feed and other platform’s features. Once connected, Claude can screen coins by technical and fundamental conditions, pull indicators like RSI and MACD, read crypto news, and check calendar events, all in plain language. In practice it works as an AI crypto trading assistant that runs on live altFINS data instead of stale training data.

  • 2,000+ coins, tokenized stocks and ETFs, gold
  • 150+ analytics
  • 160+ preset market scans
  • technical and fundamental data
  • 130+ signal types
  • up to 7 years of history

How to connect altFINS MCP to Claude

Setup is a one-time job that takes a few minutes. Here is what you need and the steps to follow.

What you need

  • Claude Desktop, latest version
  • A paid Claude plan (Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise). Remote MCP connectors are not on the free tier.
  • Node.js installed
  • An altFINS account with an API key

The steps

  1. In Claude Desktop, open Settings from the account menu.
  2. Go to Developer, then Edit Config, to open the claude_desktop_config.json file.
  3. Add the altFINS server block shown below, then swap in your real API key.
  4. Fully quit Claude Desktop, including from the system tray, then relaunch it. The altFINS tools now appear under the tools icon in the chat.
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "altfins-mcp-server": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://mcp.altfins.com/mcp",
        "--header",
        "X-API-Key: ${API_KEY}"
      ],
      "env": {
        "API_KEY": "YOUR_ALTFINS_API_KEY"
      }
    }
  }
}

On Windows the block is the same, except the command is cmd and the args begin with /c, then npx, then the rest. Full walkthrough: How to Connect altFINS MCP to Claude Desktop.

5 altFINS trading MCP prompts (with live results)

Copy any prompt, paste it into Claude with the altFINS MCP connected, and read the table it returns. Each result table below is a real snapshot from 26 August 2026. Re-run the prompt yourself for current data.

1. The Trend-Aligned Breakout Hunter

What it hunts: coins breaking above resistance while already trending up, with volume confirming the move and RSI leaving room to run.

Using altFINS on the daily timeframe, scan for coins breaking above a key resistance level while in a confirmed medium and long term uptrend. Run the SR_RESISTANCE_BREAKOUT_UPTREND preset. For each result pull relative volume, RSI14, MACD, and the nearest support and resistance. Keep only coins where relative volume is above 1.5, RSI14 is between 50 and 70, and 24h dollar volume is above 5 million so it is liquid enough to trade. Rank survivors by 1 week price change. For the top 10 give me a table with symbol, price, RSI, relative volume, nearest support for a stop, nearest resistance for a target, and one line on why the setup looks clean. Exclude stablecoins.

Live result, 26 August 2026 (30 candidates narrowed to 3 clean passes):

Coin Price RSI14 Rel. vol Support Resistance (target) % upside 1W
Kamino Finance (KMNO) $0.0237 65 2.2x $0.0173 $0.0273 / $0.0477 +15% / +101% +29%
Bubblemaps (BMT) $0.0256 67 2.2x $0.0142 $0.0290 +13% +57%
Ontology Gas (ONG) $0.105 70 4.0x $0.062 $0.106 / $0.122 +1% / +16% +84%

The % upside column is the distance from price to each resistance target. It doubles as a sanity check: ONG has only about 1% to its first resistance, which confirms what the RSI already hints. After an 84% week it is stretched and the riskiest of the three to chase.

2. The Pullback-in-an-Uptrend Buyer

What it hunts: strong coins that have gone briefly oversold. A discount inside an uptrend, not a coin in free fall. The prompt is built to tell those two apart.

Using altFINS on the daily timeframe, find coins in a medium term uptrend that have pulled back to a short term oversold condition, the buy the dip in a strong coin setup. Start with the SB_OVERSOLD_UPTREND preset. For each coin pull RSI14, Stochastic, medium and long term trend ratings, nearest support, and 1 week performance. Keep only coins where the long term trend is still up, price sits within about 5% of a support level, and dollar volume is above 3 million. Rank by how oversold RSI is. Give me the top 10 as a table: symbol, price, RSI14, 1 week change, long term trend, nearest support, and a short read. Flag anything where the pullback looks more like a trend break than a dip.

Live result, 26 August 2026:

Coin Price RSI14 1W Long-term trend Support Read
JUST (JST) $0.0992 40 -8% Strong Up (10/10) $0.097 Clean pullback; resistance overhead at $0.110
Perle (PRL) $0.209 40 -54% Strong Up (10/10) $0.208 Sitting on support, but a steep week. Wait for a bounce
VELVET $0.120 35 -82% Rated up, but broken none valid below Skip. A -82% week is a trend break, not a dip

Switching this table to 1 week performance is what makes it useful. Only JUST is a genuine shallow dip. Perle is sitting on support but fell 54% on the week, so it needs a confirmed bounce before it is a buy. VELVET is a falling knife. Asking Claude to flag those is the difference between buying a discount and catching a crash.

3. The Reversal-at-Support Spotter

What it hunts: bottoming setups using indicators only. Deeply oversold RSI and Stochastic, price pressed against a support level, with a bullish RSI divergence as the confirmation trigger.

Using altFINS on the daily timeframe, find oversold reversal setups using indicators only. Steps: (1) Run the OSC_OVERSOLD_RSI14 preset and sort by dollar volume so the results are liquid. (2) Pull RSI14, Stochastic, the RSI divergence field, nearest support, and first resistance. (3) Keep only coins sitting within about 5% of a support level, with dollar volume above 1 million. (4) Prioritise any coin that also shows a bullish RSI divergence as confirmation. If none do, say so and mark those coins as needing a bullish reversal candle or an RSI cross back above 30 before acting. Give me a table with symbol, price, RSI14, Stochastic, nearest support for a stop, first resistance for a target, whether a bullish divergence is present, and a one line read.

Live result, 26 August 2026:

Coin Price RSI14 Stoch Support Divergence Read
KAITO $0.320 28 1 $0.320 / $0.266 No Deeply oversold on $8.9M volume, sitting on support. Best of the liquid names
MANTRA (OM) $0.00407 30 6 $0.00403 No Pressed on support, still in a downtrend
ICON (ICX) $0.0149 24 0 $0.0150 No Momentum washed out, testing support

An honest result: the liquid oversold names are all sitting on support, but none carried a confirmed daily bullish divergence today. On this timeframe the only coins with a clean bullish divergence were low volume microcaps, which the liquidity filter removed. So these three are counter trend bounce candidates that need a confirmation candle, not automatic buys. That is the filter doing its job.

4. The Momentum Leaders Scan

What it hunts: coins that are already outperforming, with the momentum indicators lined up behind the move. This one rides strength rather than predicting it.

Using altFINS on the daily timeframe, build a relative strength leaderboard. Run the SB_STRONG_UPTREND preset. Keep coins where price is above the 50 and 200 EMAs, MACD is above its signal line, and 1 week and 1 month performance are both positive. Add relative volume and OBV trend to confirm real buying pressure, and require dollar volume above 5 million. Rank by 1 month change. Give me a table with symbol, price, RSI14, 1 week change, 1 month change, nearest support, and next resistance. Split large caps above 1 billion from smaller caps so I can size risk, and flag any coin with RSI above 75 where chasing would be risky.

Live result, 26 August 2026 (liquid leaders):

Coin Price RSI14 1W 1M Support Resistance
Zcash (ZEC) large $782 72 +54% +61% $589 $888
ChainLink (LINK) large $11.30 72 +19% +35% $8.90 $14.40
AAVE large $126 68 +44% +37% $119 $145
Lighter (LIT) mid $3.30 71 +40% +60% $1.97 $3.79
Morpho (MORPHO) large $2.52 62 +21% +28% $1.84 $2.96
ether.fi (ETHFI) mid $0.578 64 +19% +41% $0.48 $0.656

These leaders all sit above their key moving averages with positive momentum. On the same run the prompt flagged three names as extended, where chasing carries more risk: Prom (RSI 78 after a 120% week), SPX6900 (RSI 80), and Pump.fun (RSI 73 after a 169% month).

5. The Catalyst + Category Combo

What it hunts: coins in a trending sector where a clean chart and a near-term catalyst point the same way. It also keeps bearish catalysts, such as large token unlocks, clearly separated so you do not confuse one for the other.

Using altFINS, find coins in a trending category where a clean chart meets a near term catalyst. Steps: (1) Run a category preset such as CAT_DEFI and pull the coins in a confirmed uptrend, sorted by 1 week performance, with RSI14, relative volume, nearest support and resistance. (2) Pull the crypto calendar for the next 2 to 3 weeks and the latest news for those coins. Separate bullish catalysts, such as mainnet launches, upgrades, and listings, from bearish ones, such as large token unlocks. (3) Cross reference: surface coins that have both a constructive chart and a bullish catalyst in the window. Give me a table with symbol, price, RSI14, 1 week change, nearest support, next resistance, and the catalyst with its date. If a coin has a large unlock coming, list it separately as a caution. If the overlap is empty, tell me rather than forcing picks.

Live result, 26 August 2026 (trending DeFi setups, the technical half of the scan):

Coin Price RSI14 1W 1M Support Resistance
Ethena (ENA) $0.141 70 +71% +64% $0.119 $0.183
LayerZero (ZRO) $1.20 74 +52% +39% $0.97 $1.22 / $1.56
Jupiter (JUP) $0.217 68 +29% +16% $0.164 $0.226 / $0.253
Aerodrome (AERO) $0.512 63 +27% +23% $0.40 $0.61
Pendle (PENDLE) $1.72 65 +30% +16% $1.68 $1.98 / $2.20

This is the sector-and-chart half of the scan. Claude then layers the calendar and news feeds on top to see which of these names has a bullish event in the window and flags any with a large unlock ahead. On this run two DeFi names were already extended and worth watching rather than chasing: Hyperliquid (RSI 76) and Raydium (RSI 76).

How to read the results responsibly

  • A shortlist is a starting point, not a signal. Every name that survives a scan still needs you to open the chart and think.
  • Always know your invalidation. Each prompt returns the nearest support so you know where the idea is wrong before you enter.
  • Small caps move fast in both directions. Big weekly gains and thin market caps cut both ways.
  • Re-run, do not rely. These snapshots go stale within hours. The value is in running the prompt fresh.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude place trades automatically with the altFINS trading MCP?

No. The altFINS MCP is read only market analytics. It screens coins and reads indicators, news, and events. It does not connect to your exchange or place orders. Claude surfaces setups, and you place any trades yourself.

Do I need a paid Claude plan?

Yes. Remote MCP connectors require a paid Claude plan: Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise.

Does the altFINS trading MCP work in the Claude web app?

The official setup targets Claude Desktop, using a config file and an altFINS API key. See the connection guide for details.

How fresh are the results?

altFINS data is live at the moment you run a prompt. The sample tables here are a snapshot from 26 August 2026 and are already out of date, so always re-run the prompts for current data.

Is this financial advice?

No. These prompts are a research tool. They surface setups, they do not tell you what to buy, and nothing here is financial advice.

The takeaway

What makes this work is not an AI that picks winners. It is a disciplined screener plus a co-pilot that runs it the same way every time, applies your filters, and tells you honestly when a setup is thin or a dip is really a crash. Paste in a prompt, read the shortlist, and do your own homework on what survives.
