Kohaku: A New Frontier for User Privacy
At the upcoming Devcon conference, the Ethereum Foundation is set to unveil Kohaku, a groundbreaking privacy-first wallet framework. Designed as both a browser extension and a software development kit (SDK), Kohaku will empower users to conduct transactions while exposing only the absolute minimum necessary information to involved parties. This initiative underscores Ethereum's commitment to ensuring transactional details remain confidential, positioning privacy not as an add-on, but as an inherent function, ensuring users are exposed to the lowest possible risks during interactions.
Integrating Privacy Across the Ethereum Stack
Kohaku is merely one component of a comprehensive effort led by the newly formed Privacy Cluster, a dedicated team of 47 engineers, researchers, and cryptographers. This cluster is tasked with integrating privacy across every layer of the Ethereum stack, from pioneering advanced cryptographic techniques like zero-knowledge proofs in research, to directly incorporating these breakthroughs into the core protocol, and even developing practical application-level solutions such as stealth addresses for enhanced anonymity. Recognizing the complex interplay between privacy and regulation, the Foundation has also established an Institutional Privacy Task Force.
