The Crypto ETF Cool-Off: Major Assets Witness Significant Capital Flight
The digital asset investment landscape is facing a notable cooling period as US-listed cryptocurrency ETFs across all major categories experience a collective reversal in momentum. After months of steady accumulation, investors have pulled nearly $576 million from the market in a single week, signaling a sharp shift in sentiment. This trend has effectively neutralized the long-standing growth streaks that previously buoyed assets like XRP, Bitcoin, and Ethereum.
The End of the XRP Streak and Altcoin Struggles
A significant milestone in this market shift was the conclusion of XRP’s 13-week inflow streak, which saw a reversal into net outflows of $1.84 million. This departure marked the end of the last remaining source of positive flow among the four major cryptocurrency ETF categories. Ethereum, however, bore the brunt of the liquidations, accounting for approximately 56% of the total withdrawals with nearly $320 million leaving its funds. Solana also faced continued pressure, recording its second consecutive week of negative flows as the broader appetite for altcoin-based products appeared to wane.
Bitcoin Demand Falters Amid Macroeconomic Headwinds
While Bitcoin ETF withdrawals moderated compared to the previous week, the category still shed over $228 million as the leading cryptocurrency struggled to maintain its price recovery. Analysts suggest that the weakening demand is largely tied to a more restrictive US monetary policy and the surge in 10-year Treasury yields, which are now at levels not seen in decades. As interest-bearing securities become more attractive, non-yielding assets like Bitcoin face stiffer competition for institutional capital. The Federal Reserve’s hawkish stance has further dampened the outlook, causing the once-rapid pace of institutional accumulation to flatten as investors pivot toward more traditional, yield-generating assets.
