Visa and Mastercard Pioneer New Stablecoin Integration for Global Payments
The global payments landscape is undergoing a digital transformation as industry leaders Visa and Mastercard roll out new commercial funding routes utilizing stablecoins. These new pathways are designed to streamline cross-border transactions, providing businesses with the flexibility to use digital assets for liquidity while maintaining the stability of traditional bank-payout systems.
Visa Direct and the Move Toward Instant Liquidity
Through a partnership with Inyo Global, Visa is now enabling eligible clients to prefund its Visa Direct cross-border payout service using USDC. This integration allows money transmitters, fintechs, and banks to operate outside of traditional banking hours, offering a 24/7 funding alternative that functions in near real-time. By utilizing the same APIs already in use, businesses can manage their liquidity more efficiently, reducing the reliance on restrictive traditional funding windows and ensuring that payouts are funded exactly when needed.
Mastercard’s Bridge Between Stablecoins and Local Currency
Mastercard has teamed up with stablecoin infrastructure firm BVNK to offer a platform that converts digital asset balances into local-currency bank payouts. This system allows businesses to maintain treasury accounts in stablecoins like USDC while ensuring the final recipient receives funds in their own local fiat currency. The service separates the sender's choice of funding from the recipient's preference, making crypto-based treasury management more accessible. With early adopters like Nuvei and Marqeta already integrating the platform, Mastercard expects to expand this coverage to over 40 currencies across more than 200 countries by 2027.
