Bridging Traditional Finance and Blockchain: Cross River Integrates Ripple’s RLUSD
Cross River Bank has announced a strategic integration of Ripple’s USD-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, into its proprietary banking infrastructure. This partnership allows fintech companies to bridge the gap between traditional finance and blockchain-based payments through a single, unified interface, streamlining how digital assets are utilized in everyday commerce.
Seamless Integration Through a Unified API
The collaboration leverages Cross River’s Core Operating System (COS) to provide fintechs with a streamlined route to stablecoin payments without the need to deploy complex blockchain infrastructure. By using a single API, businesses can move seamlessly between US dollars and RLUSD, facilitating 24/7 cross-border settlements and treasury transfers. This setup allows RLUSD to function as an additional payment rail alongside conventional options like ACH, wires, and real-time payments, ensuring that financial institutions can manage both digital and fiat assets within the same connection they already use for traditional banking.
Enhancing Global Payment Speed and Flexibility
By utilizing the XRP Ledger (XRPL) for RLUSD transactions, the partnership offers significant improvements in efficiency, boasting settlement times of just three to five seconds. This high-speed capability is designed to benefit payment networks, issuers, and acquirers by reducing settlement delays and providing greater flexibility for intraday transactions. According to leadership from both Cross River and Ripple, the initiative is a major step toward making stablecoins a standard component of global banking infrastructure, removing the need for businesses to rely on multiple disparate providers to move money across the globe.
