High-Stakes Trading: Machi’s Multi-Million Dollar ETH Rebound
A high-profile crypto trader, linked to the pseudonym Machi, recently navigated a turbulent series of forced liquidations on the Hyperliquid derivatives exchange. Despite losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in realized losses within a single morning, the trader quickly pivoted to rebuild a massive long position. This bold maneuver highlights the high-risk, high-reward nature of decentralized finance during periods of intense market volatility.
The Anatomy of a Liquidation
In the early hours of October 15, a Hyperliquid wallet belonging to Machi underwent a series of 232 forced liquidation fills. The exchange automatically sold off 1,650 ETH as prices dipped into the $2,330 range, resulting in approximately $269,225 in realized trading losses. This forced closure followed a period of voluntary selling where the trader closed another 4,000 ETH, totaling over $302,000 in additional losses prior to the liquidation event. According to exchange protocols, because the order-book sales restored the required maintenance margin, the trader was able to retain enough collateral to remain active on the platform.
A Rapid Re-Entry Amidst Market Turmoil
Rather than retreating from the market, Machi began reopening a long position a mere seven minutes after the final liquidation fill. By early afternoon, the wallet had reconstructed a substantial 2,500 ETH long position, effectively betting on a price recovery at an average entry of approximately $2,370. This aggressive re-entry occurred against a backdrop of broader bearish sentiment, including significant outflows from US spot Bitcoin and Ether ETFs totaling over $390 million. While institutional investors pulled capital out of the market, this specific trader opted to double down, showcasing a high-conviction strategy despite the recent financial setback.
