Bitcoin Behemoth: Strategy Expands Treasury with 1,665 BTC Acquisition
The corporate giant known as "Strategy" has significantly bolstered its digital asset treasury, acquiring an additional 1,665 Bitcoin to bring its total holdings to nearly 850,000 BTC. This latest acquisition is paired with a multi-million dollar buyback of preferred shares, signaling a sophisticated and active approach to capital structure management.
A Growing Digital Gold Mine
Between September 21 and September 27, the company purchased 1,665 BTC for approximately $142.7 million. The average purchase price for this specific round was calculated at $85,681 per Bitcoin. This move brings the firm’s total holdings to a staggering 847,666 BTC, acquired over time for an aggregate cost of $63.95 billion. The company’s overall average acquisition cost now stands at approximately $75,437 per coin, including all associated fees and expenses.
Strategic Financial Engineering
To fund these ambitious operations, the company sold approximately 1.47 million shares of its common stock, netting $246.2 million in proceeds. While $142.7 million of these funds went directly into increasing its Bitcoin position, the firm also allocated a significant portion toward debt management. Specifically, $103.5 million was used to repurchase STRC preferred shares, totaling 1.53 million shares retired for roughly $151.7 million. This dual strategy of accumulating digital assets while simultaneously retiring preferred stock demonstrates an active effort to optimize the firm's balance sheet through complex capital-market engineering.
