OKX US to Retire USD Pairs: Action Required for Bot Traders

OKX US has announced a major shift in its trading infrastructure, scheduling the retirement of several USD-based order books on September 30. This migration to USDC-based liquidity will result in the automatic cancellation of open orders and the termination of trading bots, making it essential for users to manually transition their strategies to avoid potential financial friction.

The Deadline and Migration Process

The transition is set to take place between 3:00 and 4:00 a.m. Eastern Time on September 30, during which time the exchange will begin delisting the affected USD pairs. While the USDT-USD pair is exempt from this change, many other dollar-denominated markets will be phased out in favor of USDC equivalents. Traders have been given a parallel window since September 23 to recreate their orders and automated setups on the new USDC pairs. Failing to act before the deadline means losing existing bot configurations rather than seeing them transferred automatically, which could disrupt long-term trading strategies.

Impact on Automated Trading Strategies

The migration has different consequences depending on the type of automated tool being used. For those utilizing Grid and Smart Portfolio bots, OKX US warns that any remaining positions will be sold automatically, a process that could incur trading fees and slippage. In contrast, while DCA, Recurring Buy, and TWAP/Iceberg bots will also be shut down, the exchange will continue to hold the underlying assets for the user. By manually stopping these bots and moving to USDC pairs before the migration window closes, traders can maintain control over their execution prices and avoid the risks associated with involuntary liquidations.

Continuity of Funding and Account Balances

Despite the removal of specific USD trading pairs, OKX US has confirmed that user account balances, deposits, and withdrawals will remain unaffected. The exchange is moving toward a consolidated book where USD funding can still be used to place orders, which will then automatically convert to USDC to access the new liquidity pools. This change is primarily an architectural shift in how trades are executed rather than a broad sale of customer funds. However, the distinction is critical for active traders who must ensure their active bots and open orders are moved to the correct pairs to preserve their market positions.
