Bitcoin’s Cooling Sell-Side Pressure: A Shift in Market Dynamics

Bitcoin’s on-chain ecosystem is witnessing a notable decline in selling pressure as market participants shift their behavior. According to recent data from Glassnode, the Sell-Side Risk Ratio has plummeted to less than half of its August peak, falling from 16 basis points to just 7. This cooling trend suggests a period of quieter value realization, even as a significant portion of older coins remains held by long-term investors awaiting higher price targets.

A Shift in Long-Term Holder Behavior

One of the most striking changes in the current market is the reduced activity of long-term holders. In August, these seasoned investors accounted for a staggering 88% of realized profits, but that figure has recently dropped to 47%. This indicates that older holders are contributing significantly less to the market's immediate profit-taking activity than they were a month ago. While a lower risk ratio does not necessarily mean exchange volume has halved, it highlights a shift in the holder mix toward a more passive phase of wealth realization.

Supply Overheads and Exchange Dynamics

Despite the drop in immediate sell-side risk, a massive block of approximately 1.07 million BTC remains held at acquisition prices between $83,000 and $86,000. These coins, largely in the hands of long-term investors, represent a potential supply overhead that has remained stagnant over the last 30 days. Meanwhile, exchange data shows that while aggressive selling still slightly outweighs buying—indicated by a negative Spot Cumulative Volume Delta (CVD)—the pressure is showing signs of improvement. For a sustained price advance to occur, new demand must be strong enough to absorb the existing supply that remains poised to enter the market if prices rise.
