Strive’s Bitcoin Treasury Expansion and the Rising Cost of SATA Dividends
Bitcoin treasury firm Strive has significantly expanded its financial footprint, increasing both its cryptocurrency holdings and its SATA preferred share count. This strategic growth has pushed the company’s annualized dividend obligations to approximately $130 million, reflecting an aggressive scale-up in its capital structure and crypto-asset reserves.
Expanding the Bitcoin Treasury and Share Base
Between late August and early September, Strive saw a substantial increase in its SATA preferred shares, which grew by over 921,000 units to a total of nearly 10 million. This growth in equity directly correlates with the company’s ambitious Bitcoin acquisition strategy. During a recent one-week period, Strive purchased 1,375 BTC at an average price of approximately $79,281 per coin. These acquisitions have bolstered the firm’s total holdings to 24,531 BTC, further solidifying its position as a major institutional holder of the digital asset.
Managing Dividend Obligations and Cash Coverage
The increase in share count has elevated Strive's annualized dividend burden by nearly $12 million, bringing the total estimated yearly payout to $130 million based on a 13% dividend rate. To manage these rising costs, the company has simultaneously increased its cash and cash equivalents, which rose by $19.1 million to a total of $202.6 million. This financial management ensures that Strive maintains a stable cash-only coverage ratio of approximately 18.7 months for its dividend payments.
Future Outlook and Asset Stability
While the current coverage ratio remains static, it is important to note that this calculation excludes other liquid assets, such as Strive’s $49.3 million stake in STRC preferred stock. The company’s board has maintained the dividend rate at 13%, with daily payouts scheduled for holders of record. Moving forward, the sustainability of this model will depend on future shifts in cash reserves, SATA share issuance, and potential fluctuations in the dividend rate as the company continues to navigate the volatile Bitcoin market.
