A Strategic Shift at OCEAN Mining: The Exit of Luke Dashjr
The Bitcoin mining landscape has experienced a significant transition as OCEAN Mining finalized a total buyout of co-founder and 16-year Bitcoin Core veteran Luke Dashjr.
Restructuring Leadership and Ownership
Following a joint statement released on August 29, Luke Dashjr has officially resigned from his pivotal roles as chairman, chief technology officer, and director. The private firm repurchased all of Dashjr's equity, effectively ending his influence over the company's governance and mining-policy decisions. While the financial terms of the buyout remain undisclosed, OCEAN confirmed it will continue its commitment to operating a transparent, non-custodial pool. Meanwhile, Dashjr is pivoting toward a new mining venture titled CONVOY, though technical details and infrastructure plans for the new project have yet to be publicly verified.
Divergent Visions and Market Position
The split appears to be rooted in fundamental differences regarding the future of Bitcoin protocol developments and mining policy. Although the parties did not cite a specific technical proposal as the catalyst, the move follows recent internal shifts regarding block template policies and the implementation of standards like BIP-110. Despite this high-profile departure, OCEAN maintains a stable presence in the mining sector, currently controlling approximately 2.5% to 3% of the total Bitcoin network hashrate, or roughly 25 exahashes per second. The pool continues to utilize its DATUM system, which empowers individual miners with greater control over block construction, ensuring its core operational philosophy remains intact post-buyout.
