MANTRA Chain has temporarily taken its mainnet offline following a security breach linked to a vulnerability in an upstream software dependency. To safeguard the ecosystem, the team suspended all onchain activities, including transactions, transfers, and staking, while they work toward a coordinated network restart and security patch deployment.

Investigating the Breach and Mitigating Risk

The disruption began on August 21 when MANTRA identified an exploit targeting a specific, though unnamed, upstream dependency. In response, the team immediately froze endpoints and transactions to conduct a thorough root cause analysis. While MANTRA has assured users that the network halt itself did not affect user funds, the total asset impact resulting from the attacker’s initial activity remains under investigation. Currently, the team is working closely with exchange partners and tracing fund movements to assess the full scope of the incident.

The Roadmap to a Coordinated Restart

Recovery efforts are currently centered on the deployment of patch v8.4.0, which is designed to resolve the underlying vulnerability. This update is undergoing rigorous testing on the DuKong testnet to ensure stability before a wider rollout. Because the network relies on a decentralized set of validators, a mainnet restart cannot happen independently; instead, MANTRA is coordinating with node operators to ensure a synchronized upgrade.
