Canary Capital Advances TRON ETF Ambitions with New Staking Details
Canary Capital has intensified its pursuit of a regulated TRON investment vehicle by filing a fourth amendment for its proposed "Canary Staked TRX ETF." This latest update provides critical transparency into the fund's operational strategy, most notably disclosing a 1.10% management fee and a bold plan to stake up to 90% of the trust's assets to generate yield for investors.
A New Yield Strategy for Digital Assets
Unlike traditional spot ETFs that simply track the price of an underlying asset, Canary’s proposal seeks to integrate network participation directly into the fund wrapper. By staking the vast majority of its TRX holdings, the ETF aims to offer a "staking rewards" profile, potentially making it more attractive than a passive spot fund for those seeking yield-linked exposure. However, this approach introduces additional layers of complexity regarding liquidity, validator performance, and the technical risks of "slashing" that both the SEC and potential investors will likely scrutinize before launch.
The Regulatory Path Ahead
Despite the detailed filing, the road to market remains paved with regulatory uncertainty as the SEC has yet to greenlight a staked crypto ETF in the United States. The required 19b-4 rule change process remains a separate and rigorous hurdle, meaning that while TRON is now firmly in the institutional conversation alongside Bitcoin and Ethereum, approval is by no means guaranteed. Canary is positioning itself for the "next wave" of crypto products, but for now, the 1.10% fee and staking mechanics remain theoretical benchmarks until regulators allow the product to officially move forward.
