The Shiba Inu community recently experienced a period of uncertainty, marked by the lead ambassador Shytoshi Kusama's prolonged silence and a significant security incident. This led to widespread speculation regarding Kusama's commitment to the project, prompting a much-anticipated public statement from the prominent figure.
Shibarium Faces Flash Loan Attack
Over the weekend, the Shibarium network was targeted in a flash loan attack, initially flagged by blockchain security firm Peckshield. An attacker exploited the system by borrowing 4.6 million BONE tokens via a flash loan to gain control of a majority of validator keys. While the incident caused concern, swift action by Shiba Inu developer Kaal Dhairya and the K9finance DAO multisig prevented a larger catastrophe. Dhairya's proactive steps successfully mitigated the breach, although the exploit still resulted in the loss of 224.57 ETH and 92.6 billion SHIB. Attempts to sell nearly $700,000 in KNINE were thwarted as the attacker's address was blacklisted, and the 4.6 million BONE tokens remained locked, preventing their withdrawal.
Shytoshi Kusama Addresses Speculation and Reassures Community
Amidst the fallout and growing speculation about his absence, Shytoshi Kusama finally broke his silence on X (formerly Twitter). He firmly refuted rumors of abandoning the Shiba Inu project, clarifying that his reduced presence on core SHIB discussions was due to a broader focus on AI initiatives aimed at enhancing the entire ecosystem's tokens. Kusama explained his silence as a deliberate choice to thoroughly understand complex situations before commenting. He assured the community that he is actively involved, stating, "Yes we are on it, in the war room, so to speak," alongside Kaal Dhairya and other developers, working on next steps with more official statements to follow through SHIB channels.
