The $600 Million Devaluation: Eric Trump’s American Bitcoin Corp. Faces Market Turmoil
Eric Trump, serving as the Chief Strategy Officer for American Bitcoin Corp. (ABTC), has seen his personal stake in the company plummet by approximately $600 million following a staggering 97% decline in the firm’s stock value. Despite his brother Donald Trump Jr. also holding a stake, the company has struggled against a broader crypto downturn that saw its share price crash from a 2025 peak of $217 to a record low of under $6.
Market Volatility and Delisting Pressures
The massive sell-off in ABTC stock, which included a nearly 30% drop in a single week, pushed the firm to the brink of a Nasdaq delisting. To combat this and maintain the exchange's $1 minimum bid price requirement, the company was forced to execute a 1-for-5 reverse stock split in early July. This maneuver follows a similar trend among other Bitcoin treasury firms, such as Nakamoto, which also had to restructure their shares to remain publicly traded amidst the industry-wide equity slump.
Strategic Resilience and Treasury Expansion
Despite the equity market’s negative reaction, Eric Trump has publicly downplayed the crash as "market volatility" and reaffirmed the company’s long-term strategy. He highlighted that American Bitcoin Corp. successfully increased its Bitcoin holdings from 7,500 to 8,000 coins, taking advantage of lower prices to "stack" more assets. Trump maintains that the firm’s fundamentals remain strong, boasting a 52% mining profit margin in the first quarter and one of the lowest administrative cost ratios in the sector.
Shifting Landscape for Corporate Bitcoin Treasuries
The struggles at ABTC occur as the broader demand for Bitcoin among public corporations appears to be cooling. Major players like "Strategy" have recently transitioned from aggressive buyers to sellers, offloading over $216 million in BTC and causing the total stash held by public companies to dip. While corporate treasury demand has dwindled to a negligible 0.3% recently, ABTC continues to double down on its digital asset accumulation strategy, hoping to form a durable bottom for its valuation.
