Crypto Market Faces $1.47B Fund Exodus as Traders Turn Cautious

Global crypto investment products experienced a massive retreat last week, with outflows reaching $1.47 billion as investors reacted to geopolitical tensions and market volatility.

Institutional Retreat Led by Bitcoin

The digital asset market saw a significant shift in sentiment, marked by a nearly $1.5 billion withdrawal from exchange-traded products (ETPs). This trend was largely driven by a retreat in the United States, where spot Bitcoin ETFs alone accounted for $1.26 billion in outflows. According to CoinShares, Bitcoin products bore the heaviest losses, recording their worst weekly performance of 2026. Ethereum was not spared either, losing approximately $223 million over the same period. Analysts point to rising tensions in the Middle East as the primary catalyst for this risk-averse behavior. While institutional money stepped back from the "Big Two," the exodus was not universal across all regions. The Netherlands stood out as a rare bright spot, drawing $6.6 million in fresh capital, while Australia saw modest gains.

Contrarian Bets and Altcoin Resilience

Despite the broad sell-off, a segment of the market is actively betting against the trend. "Short Bitcoin" products—which profit when the price drops—attracted $10 million in fresh inflows, signaling that some traders are positioning for further declines. Interestingly, investor appetite remained intact for specific altcoins and emerging platforms. XRP led the pack with $31.8 million in fresh investment, followed by Solana with $7.7 million. Newer assets like Sui and Chainlink also recorded positive flows. Most notably, Hyperliquid ETPs defied the market gloom, drawing over $72 million in inflows. This divergence suggests that while institutional confidence in major assets has wavered, there is still significant interest in smaller, high-potential pockets of the crypto ecosystem.
