Ethereum's Path to Recovery: Two Key Triggers for the Next Bull Run

Ethereum (ETH) is currently navigating a period of significant price pressure, recently dipping by 9% and testing the critical $2,000 psychological support level. However, market experts suggest that the current weakness may be setting the stage for a major trend reversal.

The Struggle with Structural Resistance

Technical analyst Ali Martinez recently noted that Ethereum remains confined within a multi-year trading range established in 2021. The latest price action saw a "clean rejection" at the $2,300 level, which aligns with the 200-week Simple Moving Average (SMA). Because ETH failed to reclaim this specific milestone, the chart has continued to signal vulnerability rather than a sustained recovery. Analysts warn that if Ethereum fails to hold above $1,850 on a weekly closing basis, downside momentum could accelerate. Such a break could potentially lead the asset toward interim support at $1,560, or in a more bearish scenario, a retest of the $1,070 mark.

Identifying the Bullish Pivot Points

Despite the current bearish outlook, Martinez identifies two specific "triggers" that could invalidate the negative thesis and spark a new rally:

  • Reclaiming the 200-Week SMA: Ethereum must first climb back and consolidate above the $2,500 level.
  • Breaking the 50-Week SMA: Following a successful recovery of the 200-week average, a clean break above $3,100 is required to confirm a shift back to bullish momentum.

High-Probability Accumulation Zones

Supporting the possibility of a rebound is the Market Value to Realized Value (MVRV) pricing band. Currently sitting near $1,850—roughly 10% below current prices—this metric has historically served as a high-probability window for macro accumulation. Data suggests that when ETH prices dip below this band, the declines are rarely sustained for long, often forming the foundational base for the next major bull cycle.
