ONDO Surges 16% as SEC Eyes New Framework for Tokenized Stocks
The crypto market is buzzing following reports that the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) is preparing a regulatory framework that could allow tokenized stocks to trade on blockchain infrastructure.
A Major Regulatory Shift
ONDO, a prominent player in the Real-World Asset (RWA) sector, saw its price jump approximately 16% to reach $0.39. This rally was triggered by a Bloomberg report suggesting the SEC may release an "innovation exemption" as early as this week. Such a framework would provide a legal pathway for digital versions of traditional securities to trade outside of legacy exchanges and on decentralized crypto platforms.
ONDO Leads the RWA Narrative
Market analysts view this potential shift as a legitimizing moment for ONDO, which currently dominates over 70% of the tokenized equity issuer market. The platform recently surpassed $1 billion in Total Value Locked (TVL) and has facilitated more than $18 billion in cumulative trading volume. Currently, ONDO offers over 260 tokenized U.S. stocks and ETFs across major networks like Solana, Ethereum, and BNB Chain.
Future Growth and Outlook
The leadership at Ondo Finance remains highly optimistic, with Managing Director Katie Wheeler forecasting that the platform's TVL could surpass $5 billion by the end of the year. While the SEC’s approach raises questions regarding shareholder protections—such as voting rights and dividends for token holders—the move is being hailed as one of the most significant shifts in American financial infrastructure toward crypto integration.
