The Aave Chan Initiative (ACI), a crucial governance delegate and service provider within the Aave ecosystem, has announced its decision to cease operations and withdraw its commitment to the Aave DAO within the next four months. This move marks a significant shift in Aave's governance landscape, driven by deep-seated concerns over the protocol's voting dynamics and standards.

A Critical Exit from Aave Governance

Marc Zeller, founder of ACI, confirmed the organization would fulfill its pending commitments and transfer infrastructure before its dissolution. He explicitly stated that ACI was created for Aave, and without a future in the Aave ecosystem, its purpose no longer stands. The core reason for this withdrawal stems from ACI's dissatisfaction with governance practices, particularly around a recently disputed funding proposal, signaling a major challenge to the perceived independence of governance actors.

The Disputed "Aave Will Win" Proposal and Governance Integrity

ACI's departure follows a contentious consultative vote on the "Aave Will Win" proposal, which aims to allocate up to $42.5 million in stablecoins and 75,000 AAVE tokens to Aave Labs under a DAO-funded development model. ACI had vocally opposed the proposal, questioning the substantial funding package and, crucially, the inclusion of AAVE tokens which carry significant voting power. Despite ACI's objections, the off-chain Snapshot vote narrowly passed with 52.58% in favor. ACI strongly asserted that the consultation was "decided by Labs-linked addresses voting on their own budget," raising serious alarms about potential conflicts of interest. The initiative concluded that there is no viable space for an independent service provider when a major budget beneficiary wields undisclosed voting power in decisions directly impacting its own funding. Consequently, ACI plans to submit a direct Aave Improvement Proposal (AIP) to cancel its GHO funding and transfer equivalent payments to the treasury, alongside cutting its AAVE vesting stream, to finalize its transition out of the ecosystem.
