The global Bitcoin community is rallying behind an urgent cause: the restoration of the Satoshi Nakamoto statue in Lugano, Switzerland, which was recently found vandalized and submerged in a lake. This incident has sparked a collective effort to not only bring the artwork back but also ensure its future protection.
Call for Community Action
Samson Mow, CEO of JAN3 and a prominent Bitcoin maximalist, is spearheading the campaign to restore the iconic Satoshi statue. Mow has called upon the global Bitcoin community to sign a petition on Change.org, urging the City of Lugano to support the statue's restoration. The goal is to collect 1,000 signatures to demonstrate significant community backing for the initiative, with Mow actively promoting the petition and encouraging participation.
The Statue's Plight and Artist's Generosity
The petition specifically addresses the first Satoshi statue, originally unveiled in Lugano during the Bitcoin Plan B Forum in 2024. This significant artwork was recently discovered vandalized and submerged in Lake Ceresio. In a remarkable gesture, the original artist, Valentina Picozzi, and her "Satoshigallery collective" have offered to recreate the statue at their own expense. Their only request is that the City of Lugano provides logistical support and ensures adequate security measures are in place to safely display the new artwork and protect it from future acts of vandalism.
