ZIG Description
Overview
ZIGChain (ZIG) is a sovereign Layer-1 blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK, identified by chain-id "zigchain-1", that is EVM-compatible via Solidity and also supports CosmWasm smart contracts written in Rust.
Its native token denom is "uzig." The network's mainnet Genesis occurred on June 25, 2025, following a February 2025 testnet. ZIGChain evolved from Zignaly, a crypto social and copy-trading platform, and is oriented toward wealth-generation applications such as lending, real-world-asset (RWA) tokenization, and decentralized finance.
Value Proposition
ZIGChain differentiates itself by focusing on real-world-asset lending and Shariah-compliant tokenized finance rather than general-purpose smart contracts alone.
Its affiliated lending platform, ZIG Markets, has originated more than $50 million in credit with no defaults to date. Under a "Tokenomics 2.0" mechanism effective July 1, 2026, half of ZIG Markets' monthly platform revenue funds open-market ZIG buybacks, and bought-back tokens are either burned or routed to an ecosystem pool by validator vote, directly linking platform usage to token scarcity.
Token Basics
ZIG functions as both a utility and governance token on ZIGChain.
- Holders stake ZIG to validators to help secure the Proof-of-Stake network and earn staking rewards.
- Each ZIG token carries one vote in on-chain governance over network parameters and treasury spending.
Tokenomics
ZIG has a maximum supply of 2,000,000,000 tokens.
- Circulating supply: approximately 1,408,940,795 ZIG (as of 2026-09-03).
- Total minted to date: approximately 1,953,940,796 ZIG.
- Market capitalization: approximately $50.1 million; fully diluted valuation approximately $70.3 million (as of 2026-09-03).
- Since July 1, 2026, a revenue-funded buyback program has targeted accumulation of up to 500,000,000 ZIG, with repurchased tokens either burned (deflationary) or moved to an ecosystem treasury pool, per validator vote.
Launch & Funding
ZIG originates from an April 2021 token generation event under the Zignaly platform, with pre-mainnet staking offered on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain.
The ZIGChain Layer-1 itself launched years later: testnet in February 2025 and mainnet Genesis on June 25, 2025, formally announced as "Mainnet Beta" on July 1, 2025. A $100 million Ecosystem Development Fund backed by Zignaly, DWF Labs, Disrupt.com, and UDHC Finance was announced in April 2024, followed by a $25 million "DeFAI" Innovation Fund in April 2025.
Blockchain & Consensus
ZIGChain is a sovereign Cosmos SDK-based Layer-1 blockchain (chain-id "zigchain-1") secured by Proof-of-Stake consensus, in which ZIG holders delegate stake to a validator set.
The chain is EVM-compatible, supporting Solidity smart contracts, and also runs CosmWasm-based contracts written in Rust. Bridged representations of ZIG circulate on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Solana (via Wormhole), and Injective (via Peggy bridge), used primarily for exchange and DEX liquidity rather than native settlement.
Team
ZIGChain's founding team are co-founders of Zignaly, the crypto social and copy-trading platform launched in 2018.
- Bartolome R. Bordallo — Co-Founder and CEO.
- Abdul Rafay Gadit — Co-Founder and CFO, who previously co-founded Cloudways, acquired by DigitalOcean for $350 million in 2022.
- David Rodriguez Coronado — Co-Founder and CMO.
Issuing Organization
ZIGChain is developed by the team behind Zignaly, operating under a ZIGChain Foundation that stewards the network.
The project is oriented around the United Arab Emirates: its 2025 Summit was held in Dubai, and reporting from August 2026 describes ZIGChain as a UAE-based Layer-1 blockchain. ZIGLabs and Disrupt.com are named contributors to ecosystem initiatives, including RWA-tokenization products built on the chain.
Governance
ZIGChain uses on-chain, stake-weighted governance in which each ZIG token represents one vote on decisions such as network fees, validator count, and treasury spending.
Validators and delegators vote directly on proposals through the ZIGChain Hub. In the first "Tokenomics 2.0" proposal (July 28-August 1, 2026), validators voted on whether to permanently burn 519,300 ZIG acquired through the platform's revenue-buyback program or route the tokens to a community ecosystem pool instead.
Roadmap
- July 2025: Mainnet Genesis (June 25) followed by formal "Mainnet Beta" launch (July 1).
- July 2025: Strategic alliance with Apex Group, a $3.4 trillion AUA fund administrator, to build a regulated, Shariah-compliant RWA-tokenization ecosystem, citing a $5 billion pipeline.
- July 2026: "Tokenomics 2.0" revenue-funded ZIG buyback program launched, targeting up to 500,000,000 ZIG.
- August 2026: Laser Digital (Nomura Group) invested $8 million, targeting $100 million TVL in onchain private-credit vaults.
- September 2026: Bitunix exchange listing announced for September 18.
Security
No comprehensive third-party audit of the ZIGChain Layer-1 protocol itself has been published.
An automated Cyberscope scan of a bridged Ethereum representation of ZIG produced a 66% "Overall Score" and 72% "Security Score," but explicitly notes no formal Cyberscope audit was performed. Halborn audited the Permapod Core Contracts, including an oracle integration within ZIGChain's CosmWasm environment, in October 2025 — covering a lending application built on ZIGChain rather than the base chain.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is ZIGChain?
ZIGChain is a sovereign Layer-1 blockchain built on the Cosmos SDK (chain-id "zigchain-1"), EVM-compatible and CosmWasm-capable, with native token ZIG (denom "uzig"). It evolved from Zignaly, a crypto copy-trading platform founded in 2018, and launched its mainnet Genesis on June 25, 2025, focusing on lending and real-world-asset tokenization.
What blockchain does ZIG run on?
ZIG is native to ZIGChain, its own Cosmos SDK-based Layer-1 using Proof-of-Stake consensus. Bridged versions of ZIG also exist on Ethereum, BNB Smart Chain, Polygon, Solana (via Wormhole), and Injective (via Peggy bridge) mainly for exchange liquidity, but these are not the canonical native asset.
What is ZIG's maximum supply?
ZIG has a maximum supply of 2,000,000,000 tokens, with approximately 1,953,940,796 minted to date and roughly 1,408,940,795 ZIG in circulation as of 2026-09-03. A buyback program launched in July 2026 removes tokens from circulation, with a portion permanently burned by validator vote.
Who founded ZIGChain?
ZIGChain was founded by the Zignaly team: Bartolome R. Bordallo (CEO), Abdul Rafay Gadit (CFO, previously co-founder of Cloudways), and David Rodriguez Coronado (CMO), who launched Zignaly as a copy-trading platform in 2018 before building ZIGChain as their own Layer-1 blockchain.
How is the ZIG token used?
ZIG is both a utility and governance token: holders stake it to validators to secure the network and earn rewards, and use it to vote on network parameters and treasury spending, with one token equal to one vote in ZIGChain's on-chain governance.
Has ZIGChain been audited?
No comprehensive audit of the ZIGChain Layer-1 protocol itself has been published, though an automated Cyberscope scan of a bridged token contract reported a 66% overall score. Halborn audited the Permapod Core Contracts, a lending application's oracle integration built on ZIGChain, in October 2025, but this does not cover the base chain.
When did ZIGChain launch?
ZIGChain's mainnet Genesis occurred on June 25, 2025, formally announced as Mainnet Beta on July 1, 2025, following a testnet phase that began in February 2025. This launch is separate from the original ZIG token, which launched under the Zignaly platform in April 2021.
What is the ZIG buyback program?
Since July 1, 2026, ZIGChain's "Tokenomics 2.0" mechanism has used half of ZIG Markets' monthly platform revenue to fund open-market ZIG purchases, targeting accumulation of up to 500,000,000 ZIG, with bought-back tokens either burned or routed to an ecosystem pool by validator vote.
