RAY Description
Overview
Raydium (RAY) is a decentralized automated market maker (AMM) and liquidity protocol built on the Solana blockchain.
It integrates directly with Solana's central order book, so liquidity supplied to Raydium's pools can be filled by both AMM trades and order-book participants. Raydium also operates LaunchLab, a built-in token-launch platform using bonding curves. RAY is the protocol's native token.
Value Proposition
Raydium differentiates itself from typical automated market makers by feeding liquidity directly into Solana's shared central order book rather than isolating it in standalone pools.
Its LaunchLab product lets new tokens launch via bonding curves without a traditional exchange listing. Protocol TVL reached approximately $1.8 billion by the end of Q2 2025, up 54.7% quarter-over-quarter, and LaunchLab facilitated roughly $867.8 million in launch volume that quarter. RAY captures this activity through a buyback mechanism funded by protocol fees.
Token Basics
RAY functions as Raydium's native governance and utility token.
Utility functions include staking for a share of protocol fee rewards and use within Raydium's launchpad features. As a governance token, RAY additionally lets holders vote on protocol decisions.
Tokenomics
Raydium's total supply is fixed, with no new token creation beyond its 2021 genesis mint.
- Max supply: ~555,000,000 RAY, fully pre-minted at launch
- Circulating supply: ~269,538,779 RAY (about 49% of max), as of 2026-09-01
- Liquidity-mining reserve: ~34% of supply (~188.7 million RAY), emitting ~1.9 million RAY per year
Because the supply cap is fixed and emissions come from a fixed, depleting reserve, RAY's net supply trajectory is disinflationary.
Launch & Funding
Raydium launched on Solana mainnet in February 2021, with on-chain deployment recorded on 2021-02-08, without a traditional ICO.
Tokens were pre-minted at genesis rather than issued through token sales over time, with initial distribution weighted toward liquidity-mining incentives and ecosystem/partnership reserves. Around launch, Raydium ran a Binance Launchpool-style distribution of 5,000,000 RAY, about 0.9% of supply, with Binance spot listing following later in 2021.
Blockchain & Consensus
Raydium (RAY) is deployed as an SPL token on the Solana blockchain.
Solana uses a Proof of History mechanism combined with Proof of Stake, in which validators timestamp and order transactions using a verifiable delay function layered over stake-weighted validation, enabling high throughput and low transaction fees. Raydium is a protocol built on top of Solana and does not operate its own blockchain or validator set.
Team
Raydium's founding team is pseudonymous, operating under codenames rather than disclosed real-world identities.
- AlphaRay: strategy and business development, background in algorithmic trading
- XRay: Chief of Technology, roughly eight years building trading-system architecture in TradFi and crypto
- GammaRay: marketing and communications, background in data analytics and market research
Additional pseudonymous contributors StingRay and RayZor are also associated with the project. The founders reportedly entered crypto in 2017, were active on Ethereum during the 2020 DeFi period, and moved to Solana for its lower fees and higher throughput.
Issuing Organization
The Raydium Protocol is provided by the Raydium Holding Foundation, according to the token's own on-chain metadata.
The Foundation describes Raydium as a decentralized, community-driven collection of smart contracts and tools accessed through third-party web and mobile interfaces, and states it does not control transactions or provide warranties for protocol use. Day-to-day development is otherwise associated with Raydium's pseudonymous founding team, and official channels include raydium.io, @raydiumprotocol, and Raydium's Discord and Telegram communities.
Governance
RAY functions as Raydium's governance token, letting holders vote on protocol proposals, upgrades, and fee-structure changes.
Voting power is proportional to RAY held or staked. Governance connects to protocol economics through a fee-buyback mechanism: 12% of protocol taker fees are used to buy back RAY, with proceeds deposited into a wallet controlled by the Raydium DAO.
Roadmap
Raydium's most recent product updates center on compliance features and consolidating its launch platform around a single AMM model.
- August 2026: CLMM added restricted-asset support, enabling KYC-gated trading by freezing associated LP NFTs
- August 17, 2026: LaunchLab upgraded to make the Constant Product Market Maker (CPMM) model mandatory for all newly initialized launches, consolidating creator and platform LP shares into a single locked position at graduation, and formalizing SOL, USDC, and RAY as supported quote assets
Security
Raydium's programs have been audited repeatedly by multiple third-party firms, though the protocol has also suffered two disclosed exploits.
- Audits: OtterSec (Staking, June 2022; AMM V3/CLMM, December 2022; AMM, February 2023), Kudelski Security (2021), MadShield (2023, 2024), Halborn (2024, 2025), Sec3 (2025, 2026)
- December 2022 exploit: a compromised admin key led to roughly $5.5 million in losses
- Mid-2026 exploit: a liquidity-provider accounting flaw in the retired AMM V3 program drained about $1.34 million from RAY-SOL, USDC-RAY, and SRM-RAY pools
Holder concentration among RAY's top addresses also ranks elevated relative to comparable midcap tokens.
Frequently Asked Questions
